Adam and Jenn | NYC Engagement Photographer

These two lovebirds, Adam and Jenn,  met at NYU Med School and somehow managed to build a relationship despite their rigorous studying schedules.  Now Jenn is an anesthesiologist and Adam is on his way to a PhD in addition to his MD.  They wanted engagement photos that conveyed their love in Midtown Manhattan where they spend a lot of time and where Adam proposed.

They found me on Yelp and we had our first meeting in Starbucks.  As we talked about how they met and their interests,  I discovered their love for reading, so I suggested that we tie in a theme of words to their engagement shoot.  It seemed more than fitting for these two brainiacs!  To my delight, they were super into the idea and even agreed to buy chalkboards, and letter blocks, and made a DIY banner with their wedding date!  And how fitting that the famous Love sculpture is located right in that same Midtown neighborhood!?

Come Sunday, I set off to capture the essence of what it must have been like to be two busy med students in love.  After  gallivanting around Midtown, we took a cab up to riverside park on the Upper West Side for some gorgeous sunset shots.   We even put together a romantic sunset study session.  (Yes we rolled all of those heavy text books around in a suitcase…and by “we” I mean Adam…thanks Adam!) Now, check out these photo please tell me how much you LOVE this couple.

I used Kubota Photoshop Actions to add a subtle “umph” to some of the photos and I am totally hooked.  They really allowed me to effortlessly take my images to the next level of quality, while still retaining the warm, colorful, unprocessed look that I favor…

The Reed Family | NY Family Portrait Photographer

Check out this adorable Upper West Side fall family portrait session…Look first, talk later!

Oh, what to say about this family that I love.  This dear  husband and wife who pastor the New York Dream Center together, whose home is open practically 24-7 for anyone who might be in need, whose lives they have wholeheartedly given to serving a city and a God that they love; they have personally impacted my life a lot.  This beautiful family is such an inspiration and it was my honor to do their family photos and capture the love that they have for each other.

Six year old Emma LOVED my camera which was so fun for me, and I eventually actually had to ask her to stop changing her pose for me every click.  She was moving around so fast at first I couldn’t capture anything at all!  (It was like she’d watched America’s next top model or something…no it must have been all the High School Musical I always hear her talking about…)

Tyler was the stark opposite.  It was hard to get the three-year-old tike to sit still or to look at the camera and smile.  Essentially I had to chase him around the playground or we had to trick him for some of those smiling shots and yet somehow I feel that every shot whether he was smiling or serious managed to capture his cute, curious and playful personality.  I love that Brad and Stella Reed were so good at bringing out the smiles and personalities of their kids.

The Reeds were going for a fall family portrait look in their upper west side neighborhood and Riverside park, but unfortunately it was extremely hot the day we did this shoot.  After a series of cold days, I too had over dressed that day.  By the end of the shoot we were all hot, sweaty and exhausted.  After the shoot, I actually got a migraine from being dehydrated and overheated and had to cancel my plans for the evening, (yikes!) So I was sooo thrilled to find later when I had recovered that we had captured so many precious moments despite the antsy kids and my overheated brain.  There were so many good ones it was literally PAINFUL to whittle it down to just these.  The warm evening light cast the perfect orange glow for fall, and as beautiful as they were in color, I couldn’t believe how cool they were in black and white as well.

Rooftops of Astoria- NY Portrait Photographer

For those of you new to my blog, this is an intro to my family of sorts.  I convinced my husband to be my model up on our roof during a gorgeous sunset earlier this week.   I didn’t convince him quite thoroughly enough as you can see from the less-than-thrilled look on his face in some of the photos.  I was hoping that letting him keep the beer in his hand would be more of a help with that…  It must be said though, He is incredibly supportive of my photography… as long as he isn’t the subject.  :-]  Personally,  I think he makes quite a sexy model…but of course I think that.

Love,
