John Mark Whiddon | NYC Newborn Photographer

Meet John Mark Whiddon-  the first baby of my dear friends Colin and Sofia.  I couldn’t wait to photograph this little guy since I met him the day after he was born.   Here this little Asian/Caucasian halfling is 2 weeks!  When I got to their house I was disappointed with the available light; however,  we made it work with a window and some lamps.  All in all I think it worked out pretty well given what we had to work with.

John Mark had been a little fussy the past few days so his Mom was worried about how well he’d do with the shoot.  We turned the heat up, put on some soothing whale noises and he went right to sleep, seemingly very comfortable in the funniest positions that his Dad helped me get him into.  Thanks for being such a trooper for two hours John Mark!  This newborn shoot is really too cute for words!  Can’t wait to do this family’s portraits in the fall!

Caroline Frost Shea

PS- This little guy’s mom is an excellent designer and did the tags and prints hanging up in the strawberry pictures.  She also designed my logo. Check her out:  www.sofiachen.com

Steve and Faye | New York Engagement Photographer

Monday was an exhausting but truly rewarding night.   Working with the talented Judy Pak Chung again,  she constructed a travel themed shoot inspired by the movie “Up!” complete with stylists!  In addition to looking fabulous and stylish, this couple was so sweet, and they are getting married on my birthday this year: August 6th!   We did this shoot later in the evening than I usually do which I explain later in this post posed a problem for me, but it was also so romantic with the street lights and relative quiet in the park.  It was super hot and humid that night but with the gorgeous shots we captured- it was sooo worth it!   My fave is this first one which looked so ethereal and romantic in black and white.  The background blur of the willow tree almost makes it look like it was photoshopped with some cool brush tool- but it wasn’t at all!

I love how I learn something new with every photoshoot, especially when shadowing someone talented like Judy.   This photo shoot I learned a very simple but important lesson: I need new camera.  Haha!

Basically in simple non technical terms, my camera doesn’t have the low-light quality or capabilities that I need.  As the light dimmed and the moon came out,  the most beautiful pictures kept presenting themselves.   As Judy clicked away,  my auto focus seized up and refused work any longer at finding shapes in the dark to focus on.  By the end I could only watch!  Solution? My husband and I have decided that the time has come for me to buy a 5D Mark II in August! What a birthday present!   :)  Can’t wait! I will need it at the wedding I’m going to be helping Judy with in late August…

Rooftops of Astoria- NY Portrait Photographer

For those of you new to my blog, this is an intro to my family of sorts.  I convinced my husband to be my model up on our roof during a gorgeous sunset earlier this week.   I didn’t convince him quite thoroughly enough as you can see from the less-than-thrilled look on his face in some of the photos.  I was hoping that letting him keep the beer in his hand would be more of a help with that…  It must be said though, He is incredibly supportive of my photography… as long as he isn’t the subject.  :-]  Personally,  I think he makes quite a sexy model…but of course I think that.
