A few things you should know about me...I am passionate about creating wedding photos that are natural, romantic and timeless. My approach to portrait time is to create timeless imagery that captures you two and your unique love in an honest, but gorgeously composed way that looks almost candid. Not a model? No problem! I believe it's a photographer's job, not yours to help you look and feel comfortable in front of the camera! I work in both medium format film and some digital. Film because of its beautiful, soft, fine art qualities and perfect skin tones, and digital because of it's reliability in low light situations.

In my spare time I read, write poetry, music and mentor other women. Brunch is my favorite meal of the day and my drink of choice is a French 75.

But enough about me... I look forward to hearing more about you and your wedding plans!

An Homage to Summers in California

When reviewing my photos from California- at first glance they appeared random.  A hodgepodge of different details with no clear story or theme.  Then I started to notice a pattern of where my head was at on that trip-  The last five years I spent in New York City,  I had missed summer in Northern California and was trying to hold on to every detail I could.  Through my lens I was trying to soak in all the novelties of a summer in California- the sweet summer fruits, the clean air full of the aromas of grasses and fragrant leaves that cools at night and warms during the day. The wild flowers and the golden meadows, and peaceful contemplation of the beauty of Lake Tahoe while swaying on an Adirondack swing.  I miss you Summer California- I hope  we’ll meet again soon.

P.S. Happy birthday to my hubs!!! So glad you were born Alex Shea!

Crystal Frost Portraits – Personal Files

The past two weeks I was out in California visiting my family who I basically only get to see once a year.   I thought I’d need a few days break from photos, but only a few days into the trip I started getting “the itch.”  When my younger sister, Crystal Frost, mentioned that she might need photos for her website or an album cover, I jumped at the opportunity to photograph my beautiful sister.

Crystal, who I have called Crystie since I was little,  is quite the go-getter.  A Composition major (and business minor) she has already composed a full movie soundtrack and a t.v. show jingle as well as a song for my very own wedding last year!   She is also an aerobics instructor when she is not studying.   I suggested to her as I do to many clients, “You may want to consider not going with  a sleeveless dress. Sleeves are always more flattering in pictures.”  She replied, “Not for my arms, they look awesome!”  Haha!  And right she was…  She wanted a mix of serious, pensive and lighthearted photos to convey that in addition to having heart, she is also a serious female composer in an industry dominated by men.  Here are some of the beautiful shots we got up in Lake Tahoe, CA at our parent’s cabin.

More fun posts to come from my California photo adventures….

Steve and Faye | New York Engagement Photographer

Monday was an exhausting but truly rewarding night.   Working with the talented Judy Pak Chung again,  she constructed a travel themed shoot inspired by the movie “Up!” complete with stylists!  In addition to looking fabulous and stylish, this couple was so sweet, and they are getting married on my birthday this year: August 6th!   We did this shoot later in the evening than I usually do which I explain later in this post posed a problem for me, but it was also so romantic with the street lights and relative quiet in the park.  It was super hot and humid that night but with the gorgeous shots we captured- it was sooo worth it!   My fave is this first one which looked so ethereal and romantic in black and white.  The background blur of the willow tree almost makes it look like it was photoshopped with some cool brush tool- but it wasn’t at all!

I love how I learn something new with every photoshoot, especially when shadowing someone talented like Judy.   This photo shoot I learned a very simple but important lesson: I need new camera.  Haha!

Basically in simple non technical terms, my camera doesn’t have the low-light quality or capabilities that I need.  As the light dimmed and the moon came out,  the most beautiful pictures kept presenting themselves.   As Judy clicked away,  my auto focus seized up and refused work any longer at finding shapes in the dark to focus on.  By the end I could only watch!  Solution? My husband and I have decided that the time has come for me to buy a 5D Mark II in August! What a birthday present!   :)  Can’t wait! I will need it at the wedding I’m going to be helping Judy with in late August…

Love,

Caroline at Frost Photography

Adore the first black and white…so romantic! The one of them laying down is too cute too…I think that’s my fave. I love all the dancing shots under the moon. Did I just list all of them? haha. Beautiful work as always…love your vision.
