Caroline Frost Photography Blog bio picture
  • Meet Caroline

A few things you should know about me...I am passionate about creating wedding photos that are natural, romantic and timeless. My approach to portrait time is to create timeless imagery that captures you two and your unique love in an honest, but gorgeously composed way that looks almost candid. Not a model? No problem! I believe it's a photographer's job, not yours to help you look and feel comfortable in front of the camera! I work in both medium format film and some digital. Film because of its beautiful, soft, fine art qualities and perfect skin tones, and digital because of it's reliability in low light situations.

In my spare time I read, write poetry, music and mentor other women. Brunch is my favorite meal of the day and my drink of choice is a French 75.

But enough about me... I look forward to hearing more about you and your wedding plans!

Nilay and Annika | Central Park, Meatpacking District, and West Village Engagement Photography

Capturing romance in New York City…it never gets stale.  Whether it’s the backdrop of central park juxtaposed by midtown skyscrapers, the cobblestone streets of the meatpacking district or the stylish stoops of the West Village homes,  NYC offers endless places to capture people’s love stories and Nilay and Annika have a good one.  They are a fun couple from Texas who made a long distance relationship work for several years while Nilay was in med school.    When he settled into a residency in New Jersey, Annika took the plunge and moved out to the city.   They spend whatever weekends they can enjoying the NYC night life, and especially love the many foodie and mixology haunts of the West Village.   We stopped by Corner Bistro and Barrio 47 for some photos and they were kind enough to buy me a Bistro burger and beer after the shoot and Annika bonded over our love bordering on obsession of Harry Potter.  Annika and Nilay are planning a huge, three day wedding celebration for next April including ceremonies for both their Hindu and Catholic faiths.   They may have different religious heritage, but they share their Texas roots and gave a nod to their background by wearing cowboy boots for the session.  Annika and Nilay: I had so much fun with you two I hope you have an amazing wedding and marriage!!!

A Yale Univeristy Wedding with a Guiliford Yacht Club Reception

What can I even say about a couple like Jane and Nate and a wedding at, O.M.G.,  Yale University!!??

Let’s start with the couple:  Funny, smart, laid back, and loved by all, these two “know how to do life” as Nate’s best man put it in his speech.   I had so much fun with them during their engagement shoot, that I knew this wedding was going to be a blast.  Jane was the breeziest bride ever despite a storm that had passed through that morning dumping rain on Yale and the surrounding areas.  Answering the door when I arrived, Jane made easy conversation with me like this wasn’t the most nerve-wracking day of her life, “Hey Caroline, how was your trip to California?” “Gee, Jane, it was great, why are you so darn nice?  Start stressing out or something like a normal bride!”    But of course this coming from a girl who held back tears the whole way down the aisle at her wedding.  Jane practically skipped.  Nate was no different.  If any nerves may have been there, they were far below the surface and he skated through portraits and the first look with an easy humor.

Their wedding was spunky, light-heated, and unique, just like them, throwing tradition on its head (don’t you just love when people do that?) it was full of special moments.   For example,  what wedding have you ever been to where the program has a crossword puzzle, where the guests were asked to sing along to the Beatles during the ceremony instead of a hymn or a reception that had a piñata!?   Why didn’t my wedding have a piñata? ??? Duh!

Yale itself was a gorgeous venue for the wedding and meaningful as both of these smarties met here when they were in undergrad.  They got married in the courtyard of Calhoun College and their first look took place at their freshman year dorm where they met.  Yes, that castle looking place was their freshman dorm.   I thought I had died and gone to Downton Abbey heaven.  The reception took place at the Guilford Yacht club which was a fun place on a harbor, which the couple incorporated into their theme.

Thanks so much to the talented Angela Newton Roy who assisted me as second shooter throughout the day and shot the guys getting ready.  Your company and eye for photos were much appreciated!

Baby Scarlett | NYC Newborn Lifestyle Photographer

After photographing a baby shower and two maternity sessions for this family, I was anxious to meet the long awaited Scarlett Daniela and she was every bit as adorable as expected, given the favorable genes passed on to her by her two very good looking parents who fondly call her “Betsy.”  (I asked, they answered, but I still don’t understand why, haha)  I hope this family’s bundle of joy brings some joy to your Monday!

A few never-before-seen shots from Melanie and Des’s second maternity session:

Celebrating Two Years of Marriage | Personal Files

Just wanted to give you all a heads up that for the next two weeks I am across the country in my homeland of California with limited access to phone email for some much needed r + r plus time with my family!   I will be responding to inquiries every few days, and will be available for my August and September brides, but if your need isn’t urgent, expect a reply when I return on August 8th.  I STILL LOVE YOU THOUGH :-D

On a separate note,  I’m so excited that while I’m there there I’ll also be celebrating my two year wedding anniversary with my husband Alex Shea (a long with my birthday which isn’t quite so exciting).   We are taking a two-day getaway to Sausalito, a little town on the bay near the golden gate bridge and spending one night in Napa as well!.  I can’t wait!

As I’m sure you will see from the photos below,  our wedding which took place at my parent’s house in Lake Tahoe was a very tearful day (tears of joy, of course!) for all of us, especially me!  I have SUCH happy memories from that day, from the unique ceremony that had everyone in tears (even my Dad!) to the raucous party afterwards – makes my heart happy that people still tell me ours was the best wedding they’ve ever been to.   Have a look at some of the lovely photos from Melissa Vossler who I believe was just starting her business at the time.  Her love of photography and artful way of capturing a wedding was such an inspiration to me in starting my business.  A few of the candids are from our talented friend Keith who was snapping some photos as well that day.

Just as I’m about to start walking down the aisle, I hear the song my sister wrote for me being played by a string quartet and the beauty of the day and my excitement for marrying Alex just overwhelmed me and I was a cryin’ mess!

Alex sang to me during the ceremony and got all choked up in the middle.   It rained 15 minutes before our ceremony delaying it, but  we ended up starting it anyways with a light sprinkle, and the sun soon came out and was shinig right on the altar :)
Yes they surprised everyone by rating our first kiss.  LOVE our friends.   So hilarious!
And then we surprised everyone by throwing flowers on them instead of having them throw flowers on us!

Some more recent photos of the of us from last weekend up at Aurora, NY.  The day after the wedding I shot there, Alex asked for a photography lesson at sunset, so he got one!  He is getting quite good!!!
