Caroline Frost Photography Blog bio picture
  • Meet Caroline

A few things you should know about me...I am passionate about creating wedding photos that are natural, romantic and timeless. My approach to portrait time is to create timeless imagery that captures you two and your unique love in an honest, but gorgeously composed way that looks almost candid. Not a model? No problem! I believe it's a photographer's job, not yours to help you look and feel comfortable in front of the camera! I work in both medium format film and some digital. Film because of its beautiful, soft, fine art qualities and perfect skin tones, and digital because of it's reliability in low light situations.

In my spare time I read, write poetry, music and mentor other women. Brunch is my favorite meal of the day and my drink of choice is a French 75.

But enough about me... I look forward to hearing more about you and your wedding plans!

Favorite Thing Fridays – Tea

I’m feeling my blog needs a bit of frivolity, so I decided to start “Favorite Thing Fridays.”   This week: tea.

Yesterday I was winding down from a crazy last couple of weeks and took my mid-week day off.  Cozying up with a cup of tea, some scented candles and a book is like going on vacation for me.     As the weather starts getting chillier, tea because more of a staple for me.  I like tea of every color from black, green, white to flavored teas like Almadine rose.   The smell of tea alone can transport me to another place and time.   Some favorite tea shops of mine in the city are Alice’s Teacup, which is also a cute cafe, and Teavana on the Upper West Side.    I also am a huge fan of Tazo’s Vanilla Apricot White Tea.

Enjoy your weekend!

Lauren and David Central Park Engagement Session | New York Wedding Photographer

Engagement sessions are like children, you aren’t supposed to have favorites, but when a couple this cute and in love makes the extra effort to make theirs a whimsical one-of-a kind, I can’t help but move their session to the top of my favorites list.   I’m sure it also has something to do with the fact that this was my first session shooting film along side digital the film scans are just so tasty!  (I really have no other word to describe it).  I’m sure it also had something to do with the fact that this couple was so fun to be around and so up for doing whatever crazy things I suggested.   Can’t wait to photograph their wedding Valentine’s Day weekend 2014!

Aren’t these film images below just so tasty and soft?

These two are film as well,  I just love the way you have more flexibility in harsh sun…skin tones still look soft and gorgeous.

These two are film as well:

Lasdon Park Wedding | Jess and Lou | New York Wedding Photographer

I made the mistake of telling Jess I’m good luck.  I really thought I was. I had literally never had rain ruin or change any wedding day plans for any bride of mine,  and when Jess mentioned to me concern about rain at our pre-wedding meeting, in my effort to stay positive, I told her of my belief.  The morning of Jess and Lou’s big day the clouds were ominous. “Don’t worry,” I told myself, it will pass.  The rain started to fall and didn’t let up my entire drive up.  When I arrived it just clearing and I was starting to see a good amount of blue sky.  When I saw first Jess she was like “I thought you jinxed me!”  The clouds had cleared though and the sun was really pouring in the windows now, so I gave a smug “I told you so” smile.  We get through getting ready photos, first look and the portraits and are just starting bridal party photos when the rain starts coming down, hard this time.  In my focus on our portraits, I hadn’t noticed that in the last 15 minutes, rain clouds had filled the heavens and blue sky was no longer in sight.  Guests were starting arrive and had to take shelter in the house.  The chairs had to be covered in tarps.  Jess and Lou were upstairs trying not to freak out, they didn’t have a great backup option for the ceremony.  We waited.  I felt HORRIBLE.  Maybe I did jinx it, or at least maybe she’ll think so.  I prayed.   And then I remembered.  This exact thing happened on my wedding day.  The rain started right before the ceremony, guests gathered in the house waiting, we had no backup plan.  However,  only a 15 or 20 minutes were lost and the ceremony was all the more special for it.  The clouds literally parted and the sun shone on us in the middle of our ceremony making it all the more beautiful, special and romantic than plain old blue skies.   Jess and Lou got one better.  15 minutes after their ceremony was supposed to start,  the rain stopped, the sky parted and a rainbow, to be more specific a DOUBLE RAINBOW (all the way across the sky) the symbol of a promise appeared over their wedding tent.  A sign if ever I saw one and such a special punctuation to the promises they were to make to each other that day.  It was really magical.  So maybe I am good luck after all…

Jess and Lou and all their friends and family were such a joy to spend the day with.  You can learn so much about a person by looking at their family and friends.   They were all warm, hospitable, friendly and just generally a lot of fun.   Lou’s best friend gave a best man speech to trump  all best man speeches,  there were so many sweet moments between the bride and her identical twin sister, and pretty much just lots of fun and silliness from all her bridesmaids who had been friends since childhood and despite having spent a lot of time together doing wedding stuff, still didn’t seem to want to be parted from each other the entire reception.   The dance floor was always full and the fun and crazy antics were non-stop.  Jess and Lou- I had such a wonderful time capturing your day, it was an honor to be a part of it. I wish you guys a long, happy life together!

Many thanks to Melissa and Julieanne who were invaluable in helping me capture the day!

Perfection, Jess, you are gorgeous.
The way he’s looking at her…my heart melts.  No wonder the guests were all crying.

Jackie and Rob | Hoboken | New York Wedding Photographer

Despite having been a wedding photographer for almost three seasons now, I have to admit, I still get butterflies before every engagement shoot and every wedding.   Especially when I’ve never been to the location before. (Yes, in 8 years of living in NYC I had never been to Hoboken)  Jackie and Rob were so sweet and instantly put me at ease confiding in me that they were nervous as well.  Neither of us could have been more wrong.  Both of them looked amazing and were completely at ease in front of the camera, and the location was to die for, the light perfect.  We had so much fun running all over the city, and ended up with some gorgeous images.  I can only imagine how much fun we’ll have at their wedding in just a few weeks!  Thanks for a great evening Jackie and Rob!

Rob proposed in this exact spot last December with this sweet little book called “101 Reasons Why I Love You.”  They had promised to give each other one homemade present and this was his!  (And the ring of course…)
