This summer was topped off by Zack and Joanna’s beautiful wedding which took me up to Vermont. Now for those of you who don’t know,  Vermont is one of my favorite places on the East Coast.   Maybe it’s the the miles and miles of unblemished deciduous forests, the morning fog between hills that reminds me of my homeland of Northern California, or the sense of dedication that its residents  have to serving to deliciously fresh, local food.  All I know is that whenever I go to Vermont,  no matter how short the trip, I leave feeling fifty times more relaxed than when I arrived.  So of course I was thrilled when Joanna and Zack asked me to photograph their Vermont wedding.

From what I can tell, Vermont seems to be home to some of the most incredibly fun, relaxed, and adventurous people you will find.  No wonder it fit the bill for Zack and Joanna’s wedding day.  These pictures speak for themselves, that these two know how to have fun. (Yes that is a marching band leading the guests into the reception hall!) As for being relaxed and adventurous, Joanna in her immaculate white dress had no hesitance in hopping on a Gondola, and practically hiking up a mountain for her wedding photos- in fact it was her idea!  (Don’t I have the best clients?)  I wasn’t surprised, but I was a little jealous to find out that these two lovebirds uprooted their lives in Brooklyn in favor of living on their own little farm in Vermont.  But let’s face it, I can barely keep a potted fern alive, much less grow fruits and vegetables!

Farm-to-table is a way of life in Vermont, and Joanna and Zack wanted to give their guests a truly Vermont experience with delicious local cuisine and decorations made of local Vermont flowers and foliage by The Painted Tulip.  Later in the night, guests were treated to Vermont’s claim to fame: Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream.   While it’s more popular as a ski-resort than a summer get-away, The Killington Grand Resort Hotel in Vermont was the backdrop for this gorgeous day, giving Vermont a chance to prove why it’s called the “Green Mountain State.” Indeed, the resort provided a stunning mountain backdrop for their ceremony.  Because Zack and Joanna opted for a first look, after a few quick family photos they were able to enjoy the entirety of their cocktail reception.  After they gathered all the guests in what became a sort-of parade, the reception kicked off with a full dance floor and was full all night thanks to the amazing retro music provided by the entertaining Love Revival Orchestra.

A big hug and thanks Mary Beth and Alex for making the long journey with me and for your incredible work throughout the day.  It’s rare that I have energy to do anything once a wedding is over, but once again Vermont worked its magic and we had enough energy to make the night even more memorable by going dancing at a local spot afterwards.  I miss you Vermont, and I’m dreaming of when I can visit you again!

Beautiful! Any chance you might know the brand/designer of the bridesmaids’ dresses? That color is so pretty.
